PTE Foundation Trust Fundraising Dinner a Great Success

Donations could be the largest increase in endowed funds ever

WINNIPEG November 29, 2007  The Prairie Theatre Exchange Foundation Trust looks to see the largest increase in its endowed funds since it was created in 1987. A newly created fund, the Charles R. Huband Legacy Fund, has received more than $45,000 in donations in the past six weeks. These funds, coupled with $22,000 in donations received earlier in the year will allow the PTE Foundation Trust to potentially add $134,000 to the fund, bringing it well over $400,000. The Foundation Trust will be submitting a request to have each donation dollar matched one for one through an incentives program of the Federal Government.

The Charles R. Huband Legacy Fund was created to honour the extraordinary contributions to Prairie Theatre Exchange by the Honourable Charles R. Huband. A special dinner, recognizing his integral role in the creation of Prairie Theatre Exchange 35 years ago, as well as his unstinting support of the theatre since, was held on November 8 at the Hotel Fort Garry. A wide range of guests attended, representing the various facets of Mr. Huband’s illustrious career – leading Winnipeg lawyer, former leader of the Liberal Party of Manitoba, long-serving Court of Appeals Justice, volunteer with Westminister United Church, first Chair of the Manitoba Association of Rights and Liberties to mention only a few.

“The fundraising dinner at the beginning of the month raised significant funds and formally recognized the incredible role Mr. Huband has played in the history of PTE. A number of organizations and individuals have made large donations since then to bring us to the $45,000 total. This will ensure that the PTE Foundation Trust can continue to support the growth of Prairie Theatre Exchange,” says Cherry Karpyshin, General Manager of Prairie Theatre Exchange.

“This has been an exceptional success and I think many individuals and corporations were so generous – we had more than 20 donations of $500 or more including 3 donations of $5,000 or more – because they truly appreciated all that Mr. Huband has done for PTE and countless other organizations,” says Susan Goldie, Chair of the Dinner and Past President of PTE.

In 1987 Mr. Huband co-founded the PTE Foundation Trust and he is currently the Secretary to the Board which consists of Lawrie Cherniack, Barb Gamey, Steve Kroft and Paul LaBossiere. The PTE Foundation Trust will be applying to the Endowment Incentives Component of the Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program to have each donation dollar matched dollar for dollar. Confirmation of the matching ratio will be confirmed in early 2008.
