Fundraising Evening pairs former RWB star with PTE's own Artistic Director
WINNIPEG March 11, 2008 – Prairie Theatre Exchange is delighted to bring together for its fundraising performance of Love Letters, the delightful and effervescent Evelyn Hart, former RWB Principal Dancer, and its own charming leading man, Robert Metcalfe, Artistic Director since 2003. Rising musical star, Ann Walton, will contribute musical interludes throughout the evening.
The Love Letters fundraiser takes place at PTE on April 17 and tickets are on sale now. Along with the performance of the play, the evening includes champagne, a five-foot chocolate fountain and a sinful dessert reception following the show. For VIP ticket holders the evening will kick off with a VIP reception backstage, a wine and martini bar and delectable sushi – less than 100 tickets are available for this high-end package which also features premium seating. Several VIP tickets have already been sold.
Love Letters tells the story of Melissa and Andy who have inexorably been linked throughout their lives with a series of letters. A.R. Gurney’s work has been called “…one of the four of five best American plays of the ‘80’s.” by Time magazine. The story of these two friends and lovers is told through their correspondence by the actors on a minimalist stage. PTE will add some extra sparkle to the evening and install the giant heart that was featured in Brian Perchaluk’s set for I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.
PTE was thrilled to have Evelyn Hart co-host last year’s fundraiser. Everyone in attendance was pleased to see Hart back on a stage; even if it wasn’t in point shoes. When discussions took place over the summer about possibly performing in Love Letters, Hart was quick to respond and very pleased to return to the friendly PTE atmosphere -- especially looked forward to performing with Metcalfe.
Co-hosting duties for this year’s fundraiser will be handled by Dave Angus and Janet Stewart. Angus, is not only CEO and President of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce but is also the Chair of PTE’s Board of Directors. Janet Stewart is the well known host of CBC News at Six.
