Virtual Wine Tasting Wednesday

Connecting through wine and food

One of the things that we most miss about the shortened theatre season was Wine Tasting Wednesday – gathering with a lively group of theatre-goers and the great folks at Kenaston Wine Market on the second Wednesday of every play run, sampling wines and food carefully selected by Marlies, Pam and their staff.

But we worked with Marlies at Kenaston Wine Market to try something new. She put together a virtual Wine Tasting for every Wednesday in May that we could both share on our social media. Here are the first three posts, in case you missed them, complete with Kenaston's reasons for the selection. All featured wines are available online from Kenaston Wine Market for parking-lot pick-up &/or free contactless delivery in Winnipeg. Visit www.kenastonwine.com.

May 6 – INHALE/EXHALE – 90 seconds to breathe

From Kenaston:

When we pick wines for PTE Wine Tasting Wednesday, we are pairing them to the play and to the food. The play has a huge influence on our selections - region, event, time in life - we read about the play, we discuss and we try to be creative with our selections. When we consumed INHALE/EXHALE and thought about slowing down, listening, watching, and creating, we contemplated if we were to have a glass of wine during this moment - what would we want it to be?

2/10 made us think of bubbles - the only wine that has sound - hold sparkling wine to your ear, it is mesmerizing. Cuvée Jean-Louis is crisp with green apple tones and full of effervescence.

5/10 has sunshine in the music and we immediately reached for rosé. Le Pas du Meunier is refreshing with notes of wild strawberry & a slightly spicy finish. A taste of the summer to come.

8/10 flows like water - quick, slow, fast, up, down - moving through the indents in the riverbank. For this we thought terroir and selected a wine from the Rhône Valley. Bonpas Costières-de-Nîmes - a bold blend of grenache, syrah & carignan with rich flavours of ripe raspberry, anise & a hint of white pepper. Since 1318 Bonpas has watched over the safe crossing of the Durance River - we often reflect on the history of the people and the place of the wine.
