About Scott

Scott Henderson is a Winnipeg-based Lighting Designer who has worked in theatres across Canada including the Stratford and Shaw Festivals. In Winnipeg, Scott has designed over 70 Productions for the Manitoba Theatre Centre, 49 for Prairie Theatre Exchange, 14 for Manitoba Opera as well as numerous productions for other theatre and dance companies in Winnipeg. Scott is a graduate of Ryerson Theatre School (1990) and has been a member of the Associated Designers of Canada since 1996.  Scott is also the Lighting Director for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and teaches Lighting Design at The University of Winnipeg.

 

About Ann

Ann was recently appointed Artistic Director of Prairie Theatre Exchange.  A graduate of the National Theatre School (Directing) and the University of Winnipeg, Ann has spent over 3 decades as a freelance director of theatre, opera, and musicals across Canada, including 15 shows for Prairie Theatre Exchange.  Also an in-demand instructor, Ann taught Directing for Musical Theatre at Sheridan College for 5 years, including special topics on Lighting for Directors and Choreographers.  Ann loves the technical side of directing  — particularly lighting— and is excited to collaborate with Scott on this workshop.

Prairie Theatre Exchange presents a 2-day workshop

MARCH 15 & 16  |  10 am - 6 pm

This workshop will give directors an opportunity to explore and learn all about lighting.

We’re not aiming to train you to be a lighting designer, but will explore:

  • lighting basics that every director should know
  • how to train your eye to really ‘see’ lights
  • how to ‘talk lights’ with a lighting designer, even before tech rehearsals
  • how to approach setting levels, timings and use of colour
  • what to do if you don’t have a designer (e.g. Fringe Festival, high school musicals)
  • and much more

There will be some really fun hands-on projects through the weekend to help illuminate the principles we are exploring.  We welcome one and all.  There are no dumb questions. Come join us!

Fees:

This 2-day workshop is valued at $315/per person.  However, PTE will subsidize ALL participants as part of our commitment to providing accessible educational opportunities to our community.
