About Alan Dilworth

Alan Dilworth is a theatre director, playwright and teacher. He is Artistic Director of Necessary Angel Theatre Company in Toronto, was Acting Artistic Director and a Drummond Dorrance Fellow at Soulpepper Theatre Company. He was a founding member of Sheep No Wool and Belltower Theatre. He has directed at theatres across Canada, in the US, and Europe. He has premiered over 20 new Canadian plays in addition to his celebrated work on classical and established texts. His primary area of investigation is in creating and exploring contemporary text based theatre, and his approach to theatre making is heavily influenced by Zen Buddhism. He is the recipient of the inaugural Christopher Plummer Award of Excellence, and his productions have been nominated for, and have won, numerous awards.
