A call for applications was put out in December for directors who were interested in joining the Directors Unit, and the community responded enthusiastically. Of twenty-eight applicants, eleven directors were selected for the inaugural PTE Directors Unit.

Introducing the inaugural 2026-28 Directors Unit!

 Prairie Theatre Exchange is excited to introduce the PTE Directors Unit. Newly founded and led by Artistic Director Ann Hodges, the Unit is intended to nurture emerging and mid-career theatre directors through monthly meetings that will offer peer support and collaboration, theoretical exploration, technical skill-building, and mentorship from guest artists. The two-year residency, beginning this month, will be tailored to suit the creative interests and needs of the group. 

The inaugural PTE Directors Unit includes Ardith Boxall, Dora Carroll, Kelly Rae Jenkin, Mitch Krohn, Erin McGrath, Gislina Patterson, Zanifa Rasool, Justin Stadnyk, Alissa Watson, Emma Welham, and Erica Wilson. 

I wanted to create a place for emerging and mid-career directors to gather and explore the craft together outside the pressure and constraints of an actual production. When directing, you’re the only director in the room, so this is an opportunity to gather with other directors and compare notes, share insights, challenge ourselves, and grow. 

Each of the directors chosen has a unique perspective and practice. We are so excited to welcome these exciting artistic leaders to the PTE community over the next two years and support them on their path.”
