Les Filles du roi
An Urban Ink & Raven Theatre Performance Society Production
In 1665, the Filles du roi (Daughters of the King) arrived in New France (present-day Montreal) to help populate the new world. The lives of a Mohawk girl and her brother are forever disrupted after they forge an unlikely relationship with a Frenchwoman whose dream of a new life is more complicated than she could have imagined. Over the course of a year, Mohawk, French and English journeys collide, setting the stage for the Canada we know today.
"The genre-bending film uses the music as a vessel, showcasing its actors’ resounding vocals set to an instrumental backdrop inspired by opera and both contemporary and traditional musical theatre." - The Ubyssey, Vancouver

“This was something that was really missing from the narrative of our country and how we came into being. We knew one perspective, but we’re missing the whole other side of the story.”
