ANN SAYS:

I adore the humour and wisdom in this stage adaptation of the children’s book by visual artist Daphne Odjig. The playwright, Dezarae Meade, creates delightful characters, weaving in Indigenous words and teachings, and setting the stage for thrilling visuals as Nanabush makes the trek to talk to Thunder and Sun. We are so thrilled to be working in friendship with Oshkagoojin to share this story with family audiences.

A tale of friendship, balance and a good life

Nanabush has to find a way to restore the friendship between Thunder and Sun so that it stops raining all the time. Filled with humour and adventure, this family-friendly play invites audiences of all ages to reflect on relationships, responsibility and the balance we seek within. And, of course, mino-bimaadiziwin—the ongoing journey of learning to live a good life.

Adapted for the stage from Daphne Odjig’s retelling of an Ojibwe Nanabush story, Nanabush and the Spirit of Thunder carries a story from oral tradition to illustrated book to live performance.
